I am interested in service oriented architecture and web services. What are the latest topics on those areas? And what kind of opportunities are there to conduct a research ?

How are your areas of interest related to computer science? Have you googled? – Raphael Jan 22 at 21:00
Are there several different questions here? – Romuald Jan 23 at 1:29

@Raphael: Computer Scientists do do research on these topics. That said, the question is far too broad. – Dave Clarke Jan 23 at 5:58

It's difficult to tell what is being asked here. This question is ambiguous, vague, incomplete, overly broad, or rhetorical and cannot be reasonably answered in its current form. For help clarifying this question so that it can be reopened, see the FAQ.

I worked a bet on this topic while doing research on the Internet of Things. It is a really big topic. You need to be more specific, but the best place to know the news about any field is to check its latest conferences and workshops. Have a look at this list of conferences (taken from IEEExplore):

2013 IFIP/IEEE International Symposium on Integrated Network Management (IM 2013)

2012 16th International Conference on Intelligence in Next Generation Networks (ICIN): Realising the Power of the Network

2012 Fourth International Conference on Communication Systems and Networks (COMSNETS)

2012 IEEE 10th International Symposium on Parallel and Distributed Processing with Applications (ISPA)

2012 IEEE 19th International Conference on Web Services (ICWS)

Network and Service Management, IEEE Transactions on

You can get access to the contents of a lot of proceedings by visiting dblp and searching for the conference you want.
