On Stack Exchange, we believe the core moderators should come from the community, and be elected by the community itself through popular vote. We hold regular elections to determine who these community moderators will be.

Community moderators are accorded the highest level of privilege on our community, and should themselves be exemplars of positive behavior and leaders within the community.

Our general criteria for moderators is as follows:

  • patient and fair
  • leads by example
  • shows respect for their fellow community members in their actions and words
  • open to some light but firm moderation to keep the community on track and resolve (hopefully) uncommon disputes and exceptions

Every election has three phases:

  1. Nomination
  2. Primary
  3. Election

Please participate in the moderator elections by voting, and perhaps even by nominating yourself to be a community moderator!

Hello, I call myself Discrete lizard, and I would like to help the moderation team at CS.SE to keep this site running smoothly.

I believe I am up for the task. I have spent quite some time helping to improve the various questions that reach this site (and answering them of course, if I could and no one beat me to it :) ). I also think I can keep a cool head and have enough experience with the SE platform needed for tricky decisions that moderators must sometimes make.

Let me tell a bit more about myself. I'm currently a PhD student and teaching assistant within the field of algorithms at a university in the Netherlands, and will be so for a while. I started participating on this site a few years ago during my Masters and I'm generally enjoying my time here.

My main motivation to answer questions here (in addition to just answering those of students in my class) is that, sometimes, they lead to problems that are a real joy for me to solve. I want to maintain the atmosphere here that makes people bring these questions here and I think that becoming a moderator is a good way to do so.

My answers to the questionnaire.

About me
Hello, my nickname is Evil, long story short, it is connected with some ancient psychological theory (2011). The cute avatar is FreeBSD mascote.
I have finished Computer Science with specialization CAD/CAM, and several specializations in Psychology.

Moderation tasks
I am up for the task. I have started actively reviewing before hitting 3k, by flagging and asking for clarifications. After hitting 3k, I have been active in review queues. Sometimes I have retracted casted votes, after explanation was given and discussed my vote when needed. It is far better to listen (read) than presume something. I have a good track of flagging, with only one comment flag declined and only 3 post flags declined - because I thought that poor content meant something else (that flag is currently unavailable).
I have experience in being moderator for seven years (forum was unfortunately closed).

I belive that participating in this community is, besides sharing knowledge, shaping it and sometimes doing mundane daily work.
