Apr 9, 2012 at 20:51 comment added Gigili @iandotkelly: The course was called bioinformatic and that was the only reference. Maybe the professor decided to teach us something different to be unique or something!
Apr 9, 2012 at 20:47 comment added iandotkelly @Gigili. Fair enough, if that was what it was. Neural Networks as a technique can be applied to many domains, and as such they have been applied to bioinformatics problems, but they are a peripheral technique. If that was your (only) reference book on a bioinfromatics course, your course was about neural networks, not bioinformatics. See bioinformatics.org/wiki/Bioinformatics where the technique appears as 'whole other disciplines of biologically-inspired computation'
Apr 9, 2012 at 20:28 comment added Gigili @iandotkelly: Umm, no idea. That's what we studied.
Apr 9, 2012 at 19:57 comment added iandotkelly @Gigili - really?! A book on Neural Networks appears at first glance to have little to do with every-day Bioinformatics. Computational Biology / Bioinformatics is not normally taking biological ideas and applying them in computer sciences, it is most commonly the application of computer science to solving biological problems.

Apr 9, 2012 at 14:11 comment added Gigili This was our reference book in bioinformatic course, is that what you're looking for? Could you tell us more about the content of the course?

Apr 9, 2012 at 12:48 comment added Gigili It's a totally valid question for CS.
Apr 9, 2012 at 11:36 comment added Raphael From my experience in bioinformatics, you will not need much biology -- if the courses are given by computer scientists. You should ask the professor who will give the lectures how much prior knowledge is assumed.
Apr 9, 2012 at 11:35 comment added Raphael In other words, you are looking for biology books? If so, the question should be on biology.SE. Voting to close as offtopic.
