From a linguistic point of view, translation, transcription and annotation are three specific terms that introduce some (different) meanings. However, when it comes to the application, it seems that those share some common concept, namely "adding/providing some additional information to/for an item to describe that more accurately and clearly".

So, the question is how such terms are related and can be used interchangeably, specifically in the technical context, i.e. computer science.

Clearly, do these processes point to the same intention?

$\begingroup$ You're talking specifically about natural language processing? That's not my area of expertise but the three words you list have completely different meanings in ordinary English so why do you think they're interchangeable in CS? $\endgroup$ – David Richerby Jun 22 at 12:46
