I am a beginner. I have recently started studying OS.

In textbook, it is written as best fit is worse than worst fit. Reason - external fragmentation.

IMO,in case of variable partionioning, best fit produces more number of small free holes and worst fit produces large free holes. But how can we conclude that best fit is worse than best fit in terms of external fragmentation. Though it may be possibility but it should also depend on sequence of process sizes to be allocated to partitions right? how can we prove this? precisely mathematically?
