During navigation of activities in an Android app by clicking back button, the current activity is paused, the previous one is restarted and resumed and the former is stopped. How does activity manager service know to post these in the order to the looper of main thread? How is main thread communicating activity manager service?

I would like to know more about where in source code this is actually happening, I tried looking at ActivityThread, ActivityManager, etc but I didn't understand where the communication from main thread to activity manager service in this scenario happens.
