Can someone explain what is Event Detection? What activities or events fall under the purview of event detection? I have searched for some definitions but I am unable to understand. Are events like accident detection, waving hands, building collapse come under event detection?

I don't think you're going to find a standard meaning that is accepted across all of computer science. Asking here isn't going to be suitable, because we can't guess what they might have in their mind, and in the end it doesn't matter what we say; if you do what we say but it isn't what they want, it still won't be acceptable.
