Ok, I've found a good example

But it doesn't really answer my question.

Simple Example

We have a 8 two-word blocks. So we have an offset of 1 bit.

Say we have two references 33 and 32.

Ref His/Miss Addrs Tag Index
33 miss 0001 0001 0010 000
32 ??? 0010 0000 0010 000

what happens at 32 ???? we have the exact same tag and index so we have a hit. But it's not the same reference? I'm confused.

Unless sub-blocking is used, the entire block is either valid/present or not, i.e., caches typically use an implicit prefetching of the data surrounding an access (within the block). $\endgroup$ Dec 8 '20 at 14:28
