For a function $f \in PF$, is the $range(f) \in NP$ always?

For a function $$f \in PF$$, is the $$range(f) \in NP$$ always? It seems to me that since any function that you can verify in $$P$$ time is in $$NP$$, you can always just run the function on the input to verify it in $$P$$ time.
