Charles Martin

Dr Martin received his PhD from the University of Chicago in Theoretical Chemistry in 1994. He was an NSF Postdoctoral Fellow in the Theoretical BioPhysics group at UIUC, which studied the biophysics of vision science and the statistical mechanics of neural networks. Moving to industry, most notably, he developed the machine learning technology at Aardvark, acquired by Google in 2010. He was instrumental in making Demand Media (eHow) the first Billion dollar IPO since Google. He currently runs a boutique consulting company, Calculation Consulting, specializing in applying data science, machine learning and deep learning in industry. Clients have included Blackrock, GoDaddy, GLG, etc. He is also an advisor to the Anthropocene Institute, which invests in global solutions to clean energy, air pollution, and the oceans.
